we're having a baby!

if you follow me on instagram or are friends with me on facebook you may have seen my recent announcement that we are having a little baby boy this december! we are beyond excited! jarman literally tells me every day how excited he is for baby. in case you were wondering why my posts have been so few and far between- it's because this first trimester has been kicking my butt! i have been pretty sick since week 6. even though i pretty much lay around all day, for some reason spending time on the computer sounds really hard. hopefully things will be picking back up soon- i'm counting on this sickness going away now that i have made it to the second trimester!

this was originally going to be our announcement, and i planned to do it much sooner. but i have gotten lazy and i didn't think the picture was perfect enough. these are all of the things i have gotten for baby's nursery so far, but the pink chair m…

this was originally going to be our announcement, and i planned to do it much sooner. but i have gotten lazy and i didn't think the picture was perfect enough. these are all of the things i have gotten for baby's nursery so far, but the pink chair may just have to go somewhere else in the house! and yes, those are baby king's booties that jarman bought.

for some reason, whenever anyone gets pregnant i have a million inappropriate questions that i generally don't ask because i don't want to seem weird. so i'm just going to answer those questions for you to keep you from wondering.

1. was the baby planned? (why is this the first thing that comes to mind, i don't know!). yes our baby was definitely planned and tried for. even though it seems like terrible timing- we are due right in the middle of jarman's first semester of law school finals- we knew we wouldn't be able to plan things perfectly so we just tried until it worked. it took us a few months of casually trying, and then one month of seriously trying, for me to get pregnant. we got seriously lucky.

2. have you been sick? like i said before, i have been pretty sick. but, i know a lot of people who have been sicker so i feel like i can't complain too much. i feel nauseous almost all day and throw up usually once a day. any of you who know me well probably know that throw up is my number one fear. my mom told me over and over that i needed to get pregnant to get over it (she was super sick too so she knew what i had to look forward to). it's not really working though. i can now throw up and go on with my day- but i would still definitely count it as my greatest fear. i am taking zofran, unisom and b6 for the morning sickness, but i never know if they really help or not. maybe i would be much worse if i weren't?

my whole schedule has been completely thrown off as well. i am generally a night owl, but have gone to bed by 9 since the beginning of april (once i went to bed at 6:30!). i wake up in the middle of the night to eat of a bowl of cereal that jarman so kindly gets for me, and then again between 5:30 and 7:30 to eat again. i don't even know myself anymore- sleeping in used to be my favorite thing in the whole world and now i can't do it for the life of me.

luckily i have the most helpful and understanding husband in the world. he takes care of me constantly, and has taken on all of the cleaning, laundry, cooking, etc. i couldn't imagine doing this without him.

3. what is the first thing you purchased for baby? we found out i am pregnant just a few days before my birthday, so lots of my birthday shopping centered on baby. i started buying clothes that would work with a belly, and found lots of gender neutral clothes that are freaking adorable. i also got an elephant head for baby's room. since then i keep finding more and more things that i have to have. i eventually got sick of buying gender neutral clothes and started buying clothes for boys and girls (of course i had wayyyy more girl things). but when we found out baby is a boy i got to go a on a little spree with all of my credit and actually found some really cute things.

4. what gender did you want? your husband? i obviously wanted a girl. i have wanted to have all girls since i can remember. i just don't know what to do with boys! but ever since i found out it was a boy i am totally excited! i am not disappointed in the least, and am just so happy to be having  a baby at all. jarman apparently wanted a boy the whole time, but never told me that until after we found out. in fact, the whole time he told me he thought we were having a girl to hide it.

if you have any other intrusive questions- feel free to ask!

fashion / suit up!

IMG_0570.jpg

i'm not going to lie, i'm kind of obsessed with this outfit. my whole life i have mocked women who wear suits- we don't need to wear pants to prove that we are as good as men! dresses and skirts look so much better! what kind of lady wears a pantsuit? well, apparently this lady has converted in a big way (though i'm not sure if any other suit will do it for me like this one has).

i found this baby at h and m for $50 altogether. actually, it wasn't even displayed as a suit. i found the pants, which obviously i had to have. and then as i was looking for a new blazer (my latest obsession), i found this matching one. the windowpane patterns vary slightly in size- but i kind of love that about it. the best part about the suit is being able to wear the blazer or pants separately or together. there was a month where any given day you would see me wearing one or both of the pieces. i'm not ashamed to admit it.

i knew i needed something bright to go with it so i got this pink triangled tank from tjmaxx, whipped out my favorite bright red target purse and my favorite ysl lipstick. pairing pink and red has been one of my favorite things to do lately. my shoes are old, from urban outfitters. they are probably my favorite pair of heels, but i sometimes hesitate to wear them because there may have been a few 'tripping and falling and ripping my pants' incidents in them. i don't want to talk about it.

ps. how awesome is this graffiti that syd and i found in la? sometimes i wish there were more street art in temecula...

photo shoot / adelaide's newborn pictures

i was so excited to have the opportunity to take nicole and eric's family pictures of their new baby girl, adelaide. she is the most adorable and tiny baby ever- the dream client. we took the pictures at nicole's mom's house when adelaide was about 2 1/2 weeks old.

currently obsessed / 7 bright lipsticks you need for summer

this current obsession has actually been building for a couple of years. i used to never wear lipstick, let alone bright lipstick. i'm kind of a make-up minimalist. but i have been converted in a big way. somehow bright lipstick has the amazing ability to make you look totally put together, even when your hair is a mess and you are wearing a sub-par outfit. it works wonders and makes your face look so much less flushed. i have been collecting these lipsticks and am so excited to share all of my personal favorites with you today.

1. Estee Lauder Passion Fruit icon- This shimmery lipstick is perfect for those of you who are scared to go too bright. It adds the perfect amount of color without being too daring.
2. Mac Morange icon- this orange lipstick is intense. in the best way possible. it is definitely one of the bolder lipsticks that i own, and i love pairing it with bold colors- bright blues, neon pinks, and even monochrome orange outfits.
3. ysl #13 le orange icon- though this lipstick is named 'le orange', it is my go to red. this is actually my favorite lipstick in the bunch. ysl lipsticks are to die for. they have gotten the formula just right- perfectly creamy yet not shiny, and the color lasts for hours.
4. Bobbi Brown Crushed Plum icon- i'm not going to lie- this lipstick still scares me a little bit. it is the only one i am ever hesistant to wear because it is so dark and i feel like so many things can go wrong. but i have to admit, when i do wear it i absolutely love it. the color is rich and intense and perfect for when you are feeling a little moody hued.
5. ysl coral incandescent icon- you know how there are two types of neon pink- one that is kind of coral-y and one that is more fuscia? well this is the more coral-y version of neon pink. i'm obsessed. and again, i can't say enough how much i love ysl lipstick. this one is a little more glossy and is just perfect.

6. Sephora Glossy Lip Pencil in Orange - this is my latest addition to the collection. i'm not sure if it's actually considered a lipstick (it's kind of similar to baby lips). but it is the best peachy summer color and is so easy to wear without being nervous that it's not perfectly right. it is glossy and colorful with a little bit of shimmer.

7. Nars Schiap icon- this is the more fuscia of the neon pinks. this is the most versatile color and literally works on anyone who tries it. in fact, at my cousins wedding last week every single one of my aunts and cousins wore this lipstick (ages 11-50), and it made everyone look amazing. this is a matte lipstick which helps it to last for long amounts of time.

so, which colors are you most inclined to wear? oh an feel free to share your recommendations- i'm always on the lookout for new fun colors!

golden backyard wedding / dots + glitter + hearts

this is my cousin, tressa's, wedding and it was seriously to die for. she wanted her wedding color to be gold, with black and white accents. her mom worked for months to glitter and dot everything. she put so much work in to this wedding and it totally paid off. i'm going to start by giving you a sneak peak of our favorite part- the cake table! it is ridiculously awesome.
